Situated on a dramatic cliffside in Peloponnese, Greece, this minimalist vacation home is designed to harmonize with its stunning surroundings.
The client's brief focused on a creating a building that can capturie a sense of remoteness while being situated in a lively neighbourhood in a quaint Peloponnesian village. The breathtaking vista of the site let no other architectural gesture take place; it should be possible to savour the view from all main rooms. The architectural approach emphasizes simplicity and functionality, with a focus on maximizing sightlines to the horizon. The roadside facades have few openings while the cliffside facade boasts large floor-to-ceiling windows that blur the boundaries between indoors and outdoors, allowing for an immersive experience of the surroundings. The open floor plan promotes a seamless flow that invites relaxation and contemplation surrounded by nature.
The materials were carefully selected for their durability and aesthetics; the compact facade system enables maximum energy savings while being ubiquitous enough to fit in seamlessly with the existing building matter of the village. Local reclaimed stone is used for the landscaping and the property walls. The materials have been kept as raw as possible to ensure a fine aging process and assimilation to the surroundings.
